  • Many healthy young adults may think skipping health insurance sounds like a good idea since it can be expensive, and they feel they don’t need much medical care. However, you never know when an accident or illness will strike. Without insurance to help cover costs, individuals can quickly face financial trouble. Young adults should explore available coverage options, including the following, and select the best plan. • Employer-sponsored health plan—Many employers offer group health coverage to employees as an employment benefit. • Marketplace plan—The Marketplace allows individuals to compare health insurance options and purchase coverage. • Medicaid—Medicaid helps provide health coverage to low-income adults, and eligibility varies by state. Remember, you’re responsible for paying 100% of your healthcare costs without health coverage. Research your options and talk with HR to ensure you have the appropriate coverage. #healthinsurance #collegeinsurance #youngadultinsurance

  • More than half of adults in the United States will experience mental illness—which refers to a variety of conditions that affect one’s mood, behavior, feelings or thinking—at some point in their life. Mental illnesses can occur occasionally, while others are chronic. Common mental illnesses include anxiety, depression, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Mental Health Awareness Month, observed every May, is a time to raise awareness about mental health, break the stigma and support people with mental illness. Access to mental health care is crucial to helping many individuals receive the support necessary for treatment and recovery. However, roughly half of adults with mental illness in the United States don’t receive the treatment they need. If you have concerns, talk to your primary care physician; they can refer you to a qualified mental health professional. Your health insurance company can also provide a list of available providers in your plan. If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, remember that Americans can call or text 988 or chat at www.988lifeline.org for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. #mentalhealthminute #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthhelp

The IRS has issued a bulletin to remind taxpayers that tax-advantaged medical savings accounts, such as health flexible spending accounts (FSAs) and health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs), cannot pay for personal expenses for general health and wellness. Similarly, health savings accounts (HSAs) cannot be used to pay for these expenses on a tax-free basis. The IRS is concerned that taxpayers are being misled by companies that misrepresent when personal expenses can be reimbursed by these accounts. As you approach or reach the age of 65, a significant milestone awaits: enrollment in Medicare. The initial Medicare enrollment period begins three months before turning 65 and extends for three months afterward. However, you may be eligible for a special enrollment period if you still work and have health coverage through your employer. If you have health insurance through an employer, there are several factors to consider when deciding whether to enroll in Medicare, including spouse and family coverage, prescription drug coverage, provider access and costs. The choice will be different for everyone, so it comes down to what’s best for you and your family. The decision to enroll in Medicare while continuing your employer-provided coverage depends on your unique needs and circumstances. Talk to HR if you have any benefits-related questions. #medicare #medicareplans #employeehealthplans #healthplans #healthinsurance

  • Group health plans and health insurance issuers must annually submit detailed information on prescription drug and health care spending to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This reporting is referred to as the “prescription drug data collection” (or “RxDC report”). The next RxDC report is due by Saturday, June 1, 2024, covering data for 2023. The RxDC report is composed of several files, including those that require specific plan-level information, such as plan year beginning and end dates and enrollment and premium data. It also includes files that require detailed information about medical and pharmacy benefits. Most employers contract with third parties, such as issuers, third-party administrators (TPAs) and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), to submit RxDC reports on behalf of their health plans. Employers may work with multiple third parties to complete the RxDC report for their health plans. For example, a self-insured employer may use both its TPA and PBM to submit different portions of the RxDC report. A health plan’s submission is considered complete if CMS receives all required files, regardless of who submits them. For more details: https://lnkd.in/gxjJbXE8
