An update...plumbing had major issues in the bathroom. I had to replace the cartridge in the shower. Had to fix the toilet housing. Had to replace the tub drain. The grout has also began to crack in more places and is completely coming out on the bathroom floor and the kitchen floor. I will have to have someone re-grout the entire area around the tub to prevent water from leaking in.

The planning part with Melanie was top notch. But one meeting with Lance a few weeks before construction started should have been the red flag to canceled the job. I left that meeting hoping I would have minimal interaction with him during the construction process. Our job was supposed to last 10 weeks max. We exceeded 20! Why? The contractors they hire are awful. The tile had to be reinstalled several times. Their "recommended" tile centers refuse to consider that the tile was bad and warped because Lance says so, not the customer. Instead of making the call to get a new brand, or size, they just installed it anyway. The first installation was done horribly so once it was redone and found to have the same problems, Lance refused to consider something else might be wrong with it. The back splash had to be redone twice as well from incompetence. The tile company set our job back months on top of the complete disregard for our living conditions. When the tile was redone, we already had dishes in the cabinets. They assured me they would drape and tape everything. Instead, I came home to a house covered in dust. All over our kids toys in the living room, all over our dishes, all over their bottles. I told Kirby I never want these people back in my house and the next morning at 7am the guy is ringing my door bell with a bottle of Pledge ready to clean per Lances' instructions. Just a slap in the face.
To finish up the job, Kirby employees constantly complained about everything that needed to be done. I was assured that the little things I saw mattered to them, until we got to the end. There would be a week where no one would show up to work on the house because they thought they were finished. So then why don't I have a bathroom window? Or paint is not finished? Or fixtures aren't hung?
Their electrician fried our Delta faucet leading to a huge headache two months later. The painters were very expensive and slapped on one coat, which comes off when I clean the walls. There was no painting touch-ups, they just left it. And when I said, oh well you'll be back to do a final clean, Lance said, oh no, I've seen my guys with Windex bottles so we're good. Which after everything was the blatantly disrespectful cherry on top. Kirby didn't discount our bill, not one cent and I spent my own time cleaning up after their mess. They fired the tile company after my job, but when they had to come back to fix grout in the bathroom, the same person that left my house a mess showed up as a Kirby employee. I tried to be nice and accommodating and helpful, and really, they took advantage of that.
Today, my grout is cracked and flaking apart in the kitchen and in the bathroom, even after paying another company to seal it. I've had to fix painting issues, electrical problems and plumbing. I did these all at my own expense so I never had to have Kirby in my house again. - Vicki L.Reno, NV08Jan 21, 2021
I submitted a request weeks ago and received a copy of what I had submitted in response. No explanation or communication of any kind. After multiple requests for a response, even if only to say they couldn't take the job, I received absolutely no response. So very rude and unprofessional!
I need to change my review. The communication problem was a website issue. Lance contacted me. He was very professional and apologized, saying he would get the problem fixed. I can't give a five star review because I haven't yet used his services, but I raise the level to 4 stars based on his swift, professional and courteous responseHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Don D.Santa Clara, CA076May 22, 2018
Lance and Kurt, I have been remiss in getting back to you on the fantastic job you did on the remodel of our home in Truckee. From the first day Lance and I met last summer, til most recently when Kurt came to put the finishing touches on our place, your team has provided unparalleled professional contracting support. You guys are more than contractors. Your entire staff and subcontractors treated our home as if it were their own.
Having people in your home (even a second home) can be challenging during the construction process. Every care was taken by your staff to protect our personal stuff during the process.
As you are both well aware, the project grew from a simple "kitchen" remodel to touching every area of our home. The results were stunning. Hard to believe it is our home. Down to the very detail. You never pushed us to add on to our original scope. It was me who kept wanting to push the envelope and it was you and your team who continued to say yes and to figure out a way to make things happen. Your attention to detail was impeccable. Your recommendations, when asked were invaluable to helping us walk through this challenge. While it took longer than our original expectation, we expanded the scope almost four fold from our original goal. It was worth the wait and the weather cooperated.
My personal thanks for remaining professional throughout. I am a tough customer (but fair, I think). My expectations are and will continue to be high. Your staff, including office staff exceeded my expectations.
Your pricing was fair and competitive and you figured out ways to accomplish our goals. More importantly, the value we received was consistent with what we spent. I can't say enough about Kurt. He and I were on the same page on almost every aspect of the project. In spite of the other projects that were being worked on simultaneously, I felt as if I was your only customer.
I could go on, but I will stop. Thanks again. Congratulations on delivering superior results.
I am more than happy to serve as a reference for you and your fine company. My family is very thankful as well.
We have installed the window coverings and if you would like to arrange to take some photos to add to your portfolio, please contact me and we can arrange that.
Best.

My husband and I would give them more stars if the rating system would allow it.
It took us 2 + years to find an honest, clear contractor who communicated on a daily basis with us. What a difference from the other 4 contractors from whom we worked to get bids.
Kirby did major remodeling in our home, removing walls, adding windows and installing a brand new kitchen. A new floor was put down on the first floor.
The result is stunning!!! We love it!!
Kurt our go-to manager was accurate, and fun to work with. He made all the difference in our project.
We definitely highly recommend Kirby to all folks in the area. Very happy to be contacted by future customers who want a personal reference.
On top of all the great service and communication their bid was the lowest we received, which helped us save some money.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Philip T.Reno, NV0121May 11, 2018
I would give a Zero rating if I could!
Melanie showed up to look at 2 bathrooms refresh I was planning. When I followed up a couple days later, I was told that quotes typically take 2 to 3 weeks!!! Really!!!
In these days of fast, cheap computers, on-line price book etc...and we are talking 2, 3 weeks wait for a quote!
Two weeks later, Melanie sent this email - "We just received quite a few new contracts and our schedule has filled up until the fall. I apologize for any inconvenience and wish you luck with your project". Quote Verbatim.
What this really reads is "Your $20K job is too small and we ditch you to take the $100K jobs".
The last contractor that behaved like this was Reno Renovator in 2014....and they shut down recently.
Note that the last raving review was .... March 2017.
Make your own conclusion here.....Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

On April 17th we originally walked your project. On April 19th you did email to follow up on your proposal and I informed you that our bidding process can take up to 2 to 3 weeks as we complete bids in the order of receipt. The following Tuesday we had our weekly staff meeting to review current and upcoming projects as well as discuss your requested completion date. That week I did some initial research on your property and what would be required for the HOA approval and first thing Monday morning I emailed you to let you know our current workload would not allow us to take on your project.
Please understand that we currently walk 10 to 15 new projects a week and have only one estimator. We would love to bid every job that comes our way but we are not always able to do that. We do not often decline to bid on a project, but when and if we do, it has been through careful consideration. Your project was not a straight forward remodel. Your home was part of a multi-unit housing complex, you were part of an HOA and you were requesting us to modify the structure of the building. This type of work requires engineering, HOA approval and permitting. Unfortunately with the work load we had at that time, we knew we would not be able to get through the permit process and remodel your bathrooms by your required deadline.
Though it may surprise you, the majority of our work is small to medium sized kitchen and bathroom remodels and we certainly do not turn clients away because we feel their project is too small. The construction industry is very busy now that spring has hit and that does mean we have to be somewhat selective on the jobs we bid. We do not commit to taking on a new project unless we know we are able to invest the appropriate time and attention to them. I certainly understand your frustration but leaving us a negative review based around an assumption is not an accurate view of who we are. - Lisa S.Reno, NV01Jul 4, 2020
I have used Kirby construction on several projects. I have been very happy with their work. I would highly recommend them.

I will not be giving any stars to this company. I asked to have a quote to renovate my kitchen and the female design person that showed up was not friendly at all. First off she called me and assumed that I was not home because I did not hear the doorbell. I explained that I was home. She seems like she had a chip on her shoulder with an attitude and rude remarks. Such as "I am not psychic" When she showed up she had no idea what room I wanted worked on and she did not seem to be interacting with me or giving ideas or suggestions she just kept asking me what I wanted done. I was hoping to get some expertise/advice about the renovation of my kitchen.
I did call the company back to let them know my awful experience and she was very professional and apologetic. I am sure the company is a good company though I am not sure their female design person is the right choice for the first encounter with the customers.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Anthony D.Reno, NV05Sep 6, 2019
Great company. Quality work. I was always kept up to date. Even when there was a problem encountered with the project which increased the cost I felt the change was suggested in my best interest. Will always go back to Kirby. Will not bother even getting other quotes.

Can't say enough about this company. They remodeled our entire home and did an unbelievable job! We went on to win Best Whole Home Remodel at the Banner Awards as a result of their amazing work and craftsmanship. As with every construction project there were hiccups along the way, but the entire company (from office staff to subcontractors) handled it with the utmost professionalism and quality. While my wife and I had ideas that far surpassed our budget, Kirby worked closely with us to come up with fantastic alternative solutions that kept us within budget, on schedule, and left us with a home that still seems like a dream every time we walk into it.
